We wanted to make our clients and the wider shooting community aware that the Home Office has published a new Circular outlining the Firearms (Variation of Fees) Order 2025. This update confirms changes to the statutory fees charged for firearms licensing in England and Wales, and comes into effect on 5 February 2025.
The updated Order affects a range of licensing services including:
- Grant and renewal of firearm and shotgun certificates
- Variations to existing certificates
- Registered firearms dealers’ (RFD) certificates
- Visitor permits
The changes follow the Home Office’s public consultation and aim to bring fees closer in line with the actual costs incurred by police forces in administering these services.
At ShootCert, we welcome the clarity this update brings to certificate holders and applicants. While any increase in fees will naturally be a point of concern for some, this is also an opportunity to highlight the importance of efficient, consistent, and professionally managed licensing processes.
